Along for the Ride

Join in the fun during the 40th Münchner Frühlingsfest from April 16 to May 2 at the Theresienwiese. The event kicks off on Friday, April 16, at 6 pm, with a fireworks display at 10 pm. With a bit of luck you’ll find a bargain on Saturday (7 am–5 pm), at the flea market held by the Bayerisches Rotes Kreuz. Come back on Sunday for the Automobil-Club München’s free Oldtimer car show, where race cars and motorcycles will also be on display. Bring the entire family on Tuesday, April 20 and 27, 11 am–7 pm, for Family Day and benefit from reduced prices. Happen to have any left-over Deutsch Marks lying around the house? Then fill your pockets and take advantage of Oldies Day on Wednesday, when you can once again pay with Deutsch Marks at the festival shops (DM 2 = € 1). For early birds, Radio Energy is sponsoring free amusement rides between 7 am and 8 am. If you don’t make the first fireworks display or want to experience more, further presentations will be held on Friday, April 23 and 30, at 10 pm. For those with quick feet, on Sunday, April 25, 11 am –11:40 am, take advantage of Aktion 40-40-40. For only 40 minutes all rides, games, most food and beer will cost just 40 cents! And on Ladies’ Night, Monday, April 26, beginning at 7 pm, all rides and most goods will be offered for € 1—ladies only. On the last day, Sunday, May 2, at 10 am, the first 500 visitors to the festival’s church service will receive a free Brotzeit. To wrap up the festivities, the Allgemeine Deutsche Fahrrad Club e.V. (ADFC) and the Münchner Wochenblatt are hosting a free family bicycle tour through Munich. Led by ADAC tour guides, cyclists will take a 22-km route with three starting points. The first of these is Scheidplatz. The tour continues to the U-Bahn station Olympiazentrum (starting point 2, at 10:10 am), goes through the Olympic Park, along the Würmkanal to the Hirschgarten (starting point 3, at 11 am at the kiosk by the playground), over the Friedenheimer bridge to Westpark and ending at the Theresienwiese. With more than 100 exhibitors, two beer tents and a Weissbiergarten, live music, numerous rides—including a giant Ferris wheel and a wild water ride—many events just for children, games and good food, this 40th celebration promises endless fun and entertainment.
