In 1475, Duke George the Rich of Bavaria celebrated his wedding to Hedwig Jagiellonica with abundant festivities. Forging a union with the daughter of Polish King Kasimir IV Jagiello was considered an important political move that would ensure superiority to the Turks. As such, historians documented the festivities in detail at the time. Those descriptions became the basis for a reenactment by locals in 1903.
Today, more than 2,000 participants dress up in historical costumes and realistically recreate the medieval wedding procession. The parade, which takes place every four years, is an entertaining celebration of the culture of the Middle Ages. This year, the pageant will be held on June 28, July 5, July 12 and July 19 between 2 am and 3:45 pm. Tickets cost € 24–30. However, an extensive program including knight's tournaments, medieval dance performances and reenactments of 15th century life will be staged on the days between the parades.
