From Sunday through Tuesday, the city center will be turned into a gigantic party zone. A traditional highlight will be the "Tanz der Marktfrauen" (Dance of the Market Women) at Viktualienmarkt on Faschingsdienstag at 11 am. After the dance, a crowd of about 50,000 will party on in celebration of the last day of Fasching until 6 pm. Most bars in the neighborhood will extend the festivities, which will end at midnight with the burial of a puppet representing the "Foolish Season."

, Aschermittwoch (Ash Wednesday):

If having your fill of Fasching empties your pockets, participating in a traditional Ash Wednesday ceremony could help give you a better start to the new season. Mayor Christian Ude and his city treasurer will be among those who dunk their wallets in the Fischbrunnen on Marienplatz, supposedly to wash in new money. The ceremony will start at 11 am. Other more religious rituals include eating fish dishes for lunch and Catholic priests impose ashes on the foreheads of the faithful during Mass.
