Since 1997, the Forberg-Schneider Foundation has recognized outstanding achievements in the field of contemporary music by awarding one of Europe's highest endowed prizes for musicians, composers and musicologists. This year, English-language music critic Alex Ross will receive the prize at the Prinzregententheater previous to a concert of the Munich Chamber Orchestra. As part of the prize award ceremony, Harvard graduate Ross will talk about his work, which comprises weekly reviews for The New Yorker and articles for the New York Times, as well as a Pulitzer Prize finalist compendium on the music of the 20th century—"The Rest is Noise".  The talk will be in English-language.

Apart from this substantial support of protagonists of the contemporary music scene, activities of the Forberg-Schneider Foundation include the promotion of public performances, exhibitions and publications, as well as the sponsorship of travel stipends for artists and scientists.
