Previous to the tumultuous parties of the two main
Fasching days,
Rosenmontag (February 20) and
Faschingsdienstag (February 21), several elegant venues extend their invitation to themed balls.
Deutsches TheaterA main spot for such nightly entertainment is the Deutsches Theater, which has temporarily moved to a classy tent adjacent to the soccer arena in Fröttmaning. Each weekend until Fasching, there will be two events featuring live bands and artistic performances in between waltzing. For more information, visit
deutsches-theater.de.
Bayerischer HofAnother exclusive ball venue is the Bayerischer Hof, which will also host several dance galas each weekend. One highlight will certainly be the Magnolia Ball of the
German-American Women's Club, which will take place on February 14 under the motto "Carnival for Charity". For more information, visit
bayerischerhof.de.
International Congress CenterInspired by the Vienna Opera Ball, the Austrian-Bavarian Society will throw the
Kaiserball (Emperor's Ball) on February 10. Chandeliers, waltzes by Johann Strauss and Viennese delicacies will create a unique imperial atmosphere in the ball room of the
International Congress Center (ICM). For more information, visit
kaiserball-muenchen.de.
Münchner KünstlerhausMost likely one of Munich's most flamboyant fetes will be held at the
Münchner Künstlerhaus (Munich Artists' House). On February 3, the annual
Gauklerball (Juggler's Ball) will celebrate a "flower power party": Visitors are asked to dress according to the theme as Woodstock hippies—long hair, a pair of flares and flashy colors are a must! For more information, visit
kuenstlerhaus-muc.de.
Max-Emanuel-BrauereiIn contrast to all colorful celebrations the dress code of the "Weiße Feste" at Max-Emanuel-Brauerei will be white only. Through February 22, the beer hall, which will be decorated in white exclusively, will host several carnival warm-up parties. For more information, visit
weisse-feste.de.
Bavarian Radio Broadcasting StationOn February 17, February 18 and February 20, the headquarters of the Bavarian Radio Broadcasting Station will open their broadcast studios for three parties featuring locals DJs and bands. For more information, visit
br-funkbaelle.de.
Bayerisches NationalmuseumThe most exciting spot for a carnival ball, however, will most likely be the Bavarian Nationalmuseum, where an Arabic night will take place on February 10. Costumes are not required, but fakirs, sultans, snake charmers and belly dancers are more than welcome. To purchase tickets, go to
muenchenticket.de. For more information on the museum, visit
