Market in your Diary

The Oktoberfest may be over for another year, but that’s no reason for the party atmosphere to end. There’s more fun to be had at the annual Kirchweihdult—Munich’s most popular market, held from October 16 to 24 on the Mariahilfplatz in Au. The event, which is expected to attract some 100,000 people, dates back to the 14th century, and is based on a traditional festival held to consecrate the church on the third Sunday in October. As well as a multitude of stalls, selling everything from kitchen appliances to cosmetics, clothes and antiques, there is also a fairground and, of course, a Festzelt, to ensure visitors don’t go thirsty! Stalls open at 10.30 am each day and close at 7 pm. For more information see www.auerdult.de.
