Where to get shined up for spring (1)

If you feel you deserve some pampering, visit Wellness Sungai (Bogenstrasse 10). The exotic interior has been lovingly designed to create a calm ambience, and special touches—from the fresh floating flowers to the oriental sculptures—make it far more homely and interesting than other salons. Czech-born Kamila Prokopova has owned Sungai, an Indonesian word meaning “source” or “flow,” for three years. She offers the largest selection of massages in the whole of Germany, including the Rejuvenation and Jembatan massages, which are exclusive to her salon. As Prokopova learned most of the treatments in their country of origin, her understanding of them is not based solely on technique, but also on their cultural importance. After a friendly welcome, each session begins with a personal consultation in the lounge area, where you are invited to relax with a cup of tea. The English-speaking staff takes the time to find out about you and your body, and decide which treatment would benefit you the most. The products used are hand-mixed by the team at Sungai, following their own formulas, which consist of pure basic aromatic oils. For spring, Prokopova suggests a detoxifying Ayurveda massage (€ 79), which will clear the body of waste products and toxins after a winter of too much food and drink. Or perhaps a classic Aroma massage (€ 79), which has a rejuvenating effect. She also recommends the Hawaiian Touch massage (€89) as an effective energizing treatment. Whatever you choose, a visit to Wellness Sungai is a fantastic experience and you will leave feeling relaxed, revived and ready for anything. They will be offering a spring special in April, so keep checking the Website www.sungai.de or call (089) 41 99 98 01 for more information.

Brighten up after the long winter months with a visit to licensed beautician Sushma H. Lohaus, who offers treatments from facials to massages and various therapies in her studio at Pündterplatz. Choose from cosmetic treatments, facial and body massages, aromatherapy, Aura-Soma, Reiki and Beamer Light Pen therapy or a combination of the above. For spring, Lohaus recommends a facial, including a peeling and a massage (€ 62). After this treatment the skin is ready to be moisturized and energized. Using only high-quality products, including Santissa essential oils, she works with aloe vera gel as a base. Aura-Soma color therapy is an energy booster and good choice for emerging from winter. After running a successful business in Berlin, the English-speaking Lohaus moved to Munich three years ago. She is trained in the Beamer Light Pen therapy, which has been developed to focus the energies of Aura-Soma into the chakras, meridians, acupuncture points, reflex zones and the subtle energy field via physical light. Another enhancing spring treatment is Reiki, an ancient Asian treatment that heals and envigorates the body (€ 45). Most sessions last at least an hour and depending on your needs may be longer—the facial and massage of the shoulders, face, neck and scalp, lasts two hours. In a very comfortable, yet personal atmosphere, you’ll relax completely. Knowledgeable and friendly, she is truly interested in helping you both to feel and look great. Accommodating to your schedule, she offers sessions also during evenings and on Saturdays. To book an individualized session or for further information, call Sushma H. Lohaus at (0177) 808 44 31.

The Face and Body beauty salon in Neuhausen (Hedwig-Dransfeld-Allee 18) is also an excellent location, offering all the treatments you would expect from a traditional salon. The owner, Eva Dlugosh-Muyen, combines an extremely professional approach with very reasonable prices—and a good command of the English language. “Each customer needs his or her own special blend of treatments,” she says firmly when asked to recommend a skin care for tired, winter complexions. Each facial does, however, include cleansing, peeling, a mask, a massage and eyebrow shaping. Prices for facials begin at € 46. Dlugosh-Muyen also offers body treatments from massage to waxing (Bikini-zone waxing costs € 13) as well as pedicures and manicures (a pedicure with nail polish will cost you € 23). One specialty of this salon is the permanent make-up service. If you are tired of applying eyeliner twice a day, Dlugosh-Muyen will create a line that lasts for up to three years. Anyone nervously anticipating a big event in the near future may like to visit Face and Body for a professional makeup session. For € 13 you can have a daytime look, evening costs € 20 and bridal is € 26.

Pampering is what Dlugosh-Muyen does best and as you settle back for one of her great facial massages it immediately becomes clear that you are in the hands of an expert. For more information call Face and Body at (089) 159 56 45 or (0172) 850 39 00. Finally, she has a word of advice for customers: no treatment in the world can undo the effects of an unhealthy lifestyle. So we raise a glass of spring water to her and all the salon-owners mentioned in this feature.
