China on a budget

If you discover, after reading our travel feature on the Porcelain Road (pages 36–37), that you have developed an appetite for “white gold,” but are looking for the chance to make a purchase closer to home, then why not visit the Nymphenburg porcelain outlet store? Here you can spend a few happy hours examining decorative objects and tableware, produced by the venerable Nymphenburg Porcelain Manufactory. Most pieces have a tiny flaw—though this is often more or less invisible to the naked eye— and you can buy pieces that are up to 50 percent cheaper than shop-sold “perfect” items. And, if you are searching for older crockery, there are plenty of “left-overs” from discontinued lines. Located at the Nördliches Schlossrondell 8, near Nymphenburg Palace, the store is open every Wednesday and Friday, from 11 am to 2 pm. For more information call (089) 17 91 97 10.
