Courting Success

While it has never been a problem finding smart places to shop and interesting cultural venues to visit in Munich, the opening of the last part of the Fünf Höfe on Theatiner Strasse may well prove to be the icing on the cake. Designed by Swiss star architect Pierre de Meuron, who is also responsible for the new football stadium in Fröttmaning, this beautiful complex, which includes offices, apartments, shops, restaurants and the Kunsthalle der Hypo-Kulturstiftung, is very easy on the eyes. Tall, glass walkways give a sense of space, so that even on gray days there is a feeling of being, if not actually outside, then at least not in the artificial environment familiar to us from so many badly conceived shopping malls.
