Documenting Displacement

Every year the Jewish week in November gives the residents of Munich insight into this fascinating culture. This year’s focus is on immigrants from the former Soviet Union, their history and their new lives in Germany. The problems with which the new arrivals are confronted are addressed in films, plays and workshops. Anyone who wants to gain a greater understanding of the history of Jewish communities in the former Soviet Union may like to look at a series of documentary films that are being shown in Munich for the first time and describe life in the autonomous Jewish republic Birobidzhan in eastern Siberia. The opening concert will include works of such famous composers as Ravel, Prokofiev and Mendelssohn. Guest performances by the trio Mazel Tov (Jekatarinenburg) and a theater company from Kiev are a further valuable addition to the program. To see the whole program consult the Events Calendar or call (089) 22 12 53 for more information.
