Life Preserver

Life Preserver You may or may not have detected them yet, but for your safety München gegen den plötzlichen Herztod e.V. has installed defibrillators—lap-top size devices used to revive heart attack victims—throughout the central U-Bahn system, in several major department stores, in the pedestrian zone at the center of town, the airport, theaters, concert halls and large companies. The devices are planned to be installed in a further 20 U-Bahn stations, where security personnel have been trained to administer them. Paid for by donations, the life saving implements are light, battery-operated and have been designed for easy operation. The electric shock can be issued only when the condition is truly life threatening. Statistically, nine out of ten people survive when the defibrillator is administered within the critical first few minutes after the heart has stopped. Classes on learning to recognize the signs of heart failure and how to treat it with the defibrillator are offered by München gegen den plötzlichen Herztod e.
