A Fair of the Heart

This summer, the annual Tollwood festival will celebrate its 25th anniversary from June 20 to July 14, making Munich’s Olympic Park the most happening place in town. The thematic quest for freedom and happiness will bring together cultures from all over the globe, stretching into a great “labyrinth” of the senses. Traditional foods from various countries will tempt the palettes, while arts ranging from architecture to theater to dance will provide visitors with entertainment every minute of the day. The stunning production of Oraculos, coming to Germany for the first time, and the giant poetry slam on July 12–13 are only hints of the excitement to come. Concert highlights will include performances by No Doubt and Khaled on June 25, Lisa Stansfield on July 1 and Van Morrison on July 13. In addition to numerous open-air theater productions, Tollwood will also offer several three-day events highlighting traditional dance, such as the evenings of Spanish food & flamenco dancing from June 24 to 28. An information booklet written in German is available at www.tollwood.de, where you will find blurbs on the performers as well as descriptions of various company histories. If you feel uncomfortable with your German, tickets and other event details can also be obtained at the Tollwood hotline: 0700 3838 5024 (roughly 10 cents per minute), where you can ask to speak to an English-speaking representative.
