Tea Set

If you think about it, an English restaurant located a few steps away from Munich’s traditional Viktualienmarkt may seem somewhat strange. But one of the city’s latest gastronomic additions, The Victorian House on Frauenstrasse, has not only proven that the two culinary cultures can coexist within blocks of one another, but has become the exception to the falsely perceived rule that English food is bland and unimaginative. As the restaurant opens at 9:30 am, you may wish to start your morning with an Egg à la Benedict or one of several savory egg creations that are offered on the restaurant’s ample breakfast menu. The Victorian House celebrates tea time with a selection of more than 15 tea varieties, British-style sandwiches and freshly made scones served with clotted cream and strawberry jam. These, and an extensive international evening menu of fine cuisine, can be enjoyed surrounded by the eatery’s elegant Victorian décor—you’ll swear you are in London. The Victorian House, Frauenstrasse 14. Mon.–Sun. 9:30 am–11 pm (warm food served until 9:45 pm). Tel. (089) 25 54 69 42.
