DID YOU KNOW THAT...

>>>In a recent survey conducted by the Financial Times, Munich was voted the most popular city in Germany in which to work. Munich won with 47 percent — edging out Hamburg with 39 and Berlin with 32 percent.

>>>A new map for bikers can be obtained for free in the Umweltladen of the city of Munich at Rindermarkt 10, near Marienplatz. The guide contains route information for some 900 kms of bike paths. The Deutsche Bahn, in cooperation with the city, will soon build a parking area for bicycles at Hauptbahnhof.

>>>Munich is the second town in Germany (after Hamburg) to help mothers who feel they must give up their newborns. A so-called Babyklappe (baby drop-off) has been opened at cloister Saint Gabriel on Wolfratshauserstr. 350. Here desperate mothers can leave their unwanted babies and know that they will be taken care of until they are transferred to loving families. In 1999, 40 babies were abandoned by their mothers in Germany. >>>If you want to get into shape for the winter season, a good place to start would be Munich’s Dantebad — which was renovated last year to the tune of several millions marks. A fantastic sauna has been added to its outdoor warm water basin and the wellness basin is now heated to 32 °. The Dantebad also boasts a Finnish sauna, a bio sauna and a steam bath — the ceiling of which is decorated with a star-studded sky motif. A large waterfall, an outdoor sauna cabin and several solariums round out the facility’s offerings. For a mere DM 23 you can swim and enjoy 4 hours from 9:00 to 23:00. <<< sc
