Spring has Sprung

Spring brings beer festivals and flea markets to Munich.

Already thirsting for Oktoberfest? Quench it at Munich’s annual Frühlingsfest. The smaller-scale festival kicks off its 35th year of celebration on Saturday, April 17. Although only one-sixth the size of its famous fall cousin, the annual Spring Festival offers many of the same attractions: rides, games, food stalls, and of course, gallons of suds. On Fridays, April 23 and 30, take in the scheduled fireworks display. Grab the family and go on both Tuesdays, April 20 and 27, for Family Day, when everything on the fairgrounds, including the beer, will be reduced by at least 30% until 19:30. Still haven’t spent enough on Brez’n and brew? Then skip a little further down the Theresienweise in search of treasures. There the Bavarian Red Cross’s flea market, the largest in Bavaria, has scheduled its opening day to coincide with that of the Frühlingsfest – two treats in one!
