Some great ideas for the New Year!

New Year's Resolutions are made to be broken. If you already have enough resolutions to paper your walls, stopped smoking, lost and gained enough weight to sink a ship, read on. Because this is the year to forget everything that's meant to make you healthy, wealthy and wise. Live a little and learn to love it. 1. Slip, slide and schuss your way into the New Year : learn to ski or go sledding. 2. Dress up in Lederhosen, a Dirndl or buy miniatures for the kids. 3. Get tickets for anything at the Cuvilliés Theater. 4. Practice speed bagging. Time yourself when you pack your groceries. 5. Pig out: go whole hog with Schweinsbraten, Wammerl or Preßsack. 6. Wing it on a last-minute flight to Istanbul, Paris, Prague or Rome. 7. Delight in discovering antiques or one-of-a-kind items at a flea market. 8. Beg, borrow or steal two tickets to the Munich Philharmonic. 9. Dally in a deli: spend a delicious afternoon at Dallmayr or Käfer. 10. Bicycle to Forstenrieder Park and watch the wild boar come out of hibernation. 11. Join the in crowd at P1. You know you're in if you get past the doorman. 12. Wander through the Viktualienmarkt; purchase French pears, Israeli avocados, or simply enjoy the surroundings. 13. Buy some time: Swiss-made watches are cheaper in Europe. 14. Ice skate on Nymphenburg canal. 15. Test your I.Q. (and language skills!) with a game of Trivial Pursuit in German. 16. Reserve your table for the Oktoberfest early. 17. Paddle a boat on a lake in the Englischer Garten or Olympiapark. 18. Be prepared: open a euro account. 19. Walk on the wild side: take a hike in the Bavarian Alps. 20. Read Magic Mountain by Thomas Mann or anything by Goethe. 21. Talk to the animals at the Hellabrunn Zoo. 22. Spend an entire afternoon at the Deutsches Museum. 23. Stroll down the Maximilianstraße, Munich's magic mile. Sip an espresso in the café at the opera. 24. Invite your German neighbors over to become better acquainted. 25. Take a bicycle or walking tour of Munich, good for body and mind. 26. Drink a Maß of Starkbier in March and then find your own way home. 27. Wine and dine at one of Munich's gourmet temples. 28. Learn to use metric measurements, and calculate distances in kilometers. 29. Take a course at the Volkshochschule. Registration is on February 14 and 15. 30. Let someone ahead of you in line or yield in traffic. Observe the reaction. 31. Muse a little at the Villa Stuck, Lenbachhaus, Haus der Kunst or any other of Munich's great art museums. 32. Don't go home without visiting Neuschwanstein fairy tale castle. 33. Pull a "Full Monty": sunbathe naked in the Englischer Garten. 34.
