V-Day

Founded as a means of stemming violence against females, V-Day marks its tenth anniversary this year having surpassed its original fundraising goal of $50 million. That sum has supported efforts to increase awareness, but unfortunately sexual abuse, female genital mutilation and the sex trade, to name but a few issues, continue to this day. The international charity event does not lose importance or vitality with the passing years. This year more than 119 countries will join the V-Day movement, thereby creating a worldwide anti-violence network.
Munich will contribute to the global campaign by way of three events. On March 4 at 8 pm, the Pasinger Fabrik (August-Exter-Str. 1, S Pasing) will host a benefit reading of the V-Day publication A Memory, a Rant and a Prayer. The piece includes contributions by Edward Albee, Sharon Oldson, Susan Miller and other authors examining the insidiousness of violence at all levels. Tickets for this English reading cost € 13 and can be purchased at Pasinger Fabrik (www.pasinger-fabrik.com). The traditional V-Day staging of Eve Ensler’s The Vagina Monologues will take place at the Reithalle (Heßstr. 132, U2 Hohenzollernplatz) on two nights: On March 8 the play will be performed in German, and the next night the original English version will be presented. Both benefit performances start at 7 pm. Tickets cost € 15, and € 13 for students, and are available at VVK outlets. To learn more about the international campaign, see www.vday.org. <<<
