Dear Reader,
Whenever discussing the weather fails, food is a sure-fire conversation starter. Most of us could muse on the topic for hours. The many facets and ideologies of our daily nutrition, moreover, ensure engaging conversation and sometimes even disagreements. We could start with Lent, for example: Why mind this six-week period of fasting until Easter, aside from any religious purpose? Some of us might see this tradition as an incentive for a few weeks of purification, others could just brush it off as another form of diet. Diets! We all have our personal theories on that. If only chocolate Easter bunnies didn’t exist!
For their part, TV reporters are fond of trumpeting the latest statistics from the German Ministry of Health, which label Germans as Europe’s most corpulent citizens. Of course they go on to offer the suggestions on how to lose weight. Then after the news, a cooking show starts, sometimes with up to four chefs competing to concoct some innovative dish. It’s interrupted only by commercials hawking everything from potato chips to heavenly sweets. Indeed, we can decry such absurd TV programming from behind our TV dinners, watching the latest statistics on weight, only to take delight in a show that presents food that viewers will never smell nor eat. While we still can weigh the pros and cons of that matter, we often forget one important aspect of eating: It’s all about sensory pleasure. Eating is a vital part of our culture, and it will be endangered if we don’t devote time to it or limit ourselves with too many dietary restrictions. In that spirit, this month MUNICH FOUND has assembled a fine selection of restaurants celebrating the high art of fish preparation, as well as recommendations on numerous cultural events and activities to enjoy. Happy Easter and indulge in a few of those chocolate bunnies!

Sincerely,

Katharina Adler
