Citywide Theater Festival
The annual SPIELART theater festival is all about risk: From artists who push the envelope to create surprising theater, to audiences who entertain unusual perspectives in contemporary dramatic art. From November 15 to December 1, performances sponsored by BMW Group and the City of Munich bring together theater heads, journalists, critics and artists at several venues citywide, including Muffathalle, Black Box in Gasteig and the Haus der Kunst. The strength of the event offers local talent a stepping stone to the international scene. This year’s focus is “What’s Next,” a look at multiple generations of theater-makers and how theater is changing; there’s also a focus on Switzerland, although many European companies participate.
