Joaquín Cortés

Swirling skirts and flashing eyes behind fans: The iconography of flamenco dance often focuses on its female stars. The one wearing the pants in the world of Spanish dancing, however, is Joaquín Cortés. After debuting as a soloist with the Spanish National Ballet at 15, the superstar went on to found the world-famous Joaquín Cortés Flamenco Ballet Company in 1992. Since then, the group has performed traditional pieces and original choreography to great acclaim across the globe. Cortés wrote the music and choreography for “Mi Soledad,” which premiered in Mexico in 2005. This mix of jazz, Cuban, classic, and flamenco dance and music will visit the Deutsches Theater this July. The show will take place on July 12, 13, and 14, at 8 pm, and July 15 at 7 pm. Tickets are on sale for € 22.50–67.70.
