Thanksgiving Events

This November 23, Americans in Munich won’t be forced to give thanks with Weisswurst and Apfelstrudel: Several local restaurants are planning Thanksgiving feasts that might just be tastier than what mom used to make.

Piazza Linda (Elisabethstr. 12) will celebrate for two days: On “Turkey Day” itself, Linda will offer a three-course menu and music, and on Friday, November 24 at 7 pm, Irish chef Shane McMahon will cook a traditional American turkey dinner featuring pumpkin cream soup, turkey with all the trimmings and a surprise dessert. Musical guest Kevin Henderson will play American oldies and light rock. Reservations are highly recommended. (Tel. 27 27 22 01) for the € 30-per-person feast.

Also on November 24, the Marriott (Berlinerstr. 93) will offer a traditional turkey feast in its Grill 93 restaurant. The meal, including coffee, tea, wine and other non-alcoholic drinks, will cost € 38 per person. Call 36 00 20 for reservations or more information.

The Hard Rock Cafe (Platzl 1) knows that, for many, food isn’t the highlight of Thanksgiving festivities: In cooperation with NASN and Kabel Deutschland, the famed eatery will air American football games, live, beginning at 6 pm. Of course, traditional American specialties will be on the menu as well. Call 24 29 49 14 for reservations and more information.

Cohen’s (Jewish specialties restaurant located at Theresienstr. 31) will be a great option for any group that includes vegetarians: They’ll offer a roasted eggplant in pumpkin sauce as a substitute for turkey in their three-course dinner, on offer November 23 at 8 pm. Carnivores, of course, will be served turkey, as well as carrot crème soup and Topfenpalatschinken (rolled pancakes stuffed with sweet cream and raisins) for dessert. All three courses, and a complimentary glass of Prosecco, will cost € 29.50. Call 280 95 45 or email contact@cohens.de to make reservations.

Finally, homebodies might want to purchase a fantastically fresh bird from the Höhenrainer on Viktualienmarkt (Tel. 29 16 43 44). Customers must order in advance, and may request that the butchers—Germany’s oldest turkey specialists—leave the neck open for scooping in stuffing. Adult birds cost € 6.50 per kilogram. The stand is open Monday through Thursday, 9 am–6 pm, Friday, 8:15 am–6:45 pm, and Saturday, 7:30 am–3:30 pm.
