A Dan Flavin Retrospective

Trailblazing American artist Dan Flavin (1933-1996) had connections to Munich very early in his career. Only five years after he began his groundbreaking work with light fixtures, the Galerie Friedrich on Maximilianstrasse hosted a three-room exhibition of his work. Now, Flavin's famous light installations will return to Munich on a much larger scale. From November 22 to March 4, 2007, more than half of the top floor at the Pinakothek der Moderne will be dedicated to showcasing the exhibition "Dan Flavin: Retrospective." Representative pieces from each stage of his career will be on display, ranging from twenty of the renowned "Monuments to Vladimir Tatlin" to several smaller and lesser-known sculptures. In all, the exhibition will be the largest ever hosted by the museum--a reflection of its curators' commitment to making the Pinakothek der Moderne one of the world's greatest centers for the presentation of American Minimalism.
