Happy Birthday Munich!

On June 10 and 11, Munich will celebrate its 848th birthday by throwing huge bash, including craft booths, music, beer and all things Muenchen. The celebration will mark the day, in 1158, when emperor Barbarossa placed his seal on the foundation charter for “munichen,” a settlement of the monks. The festival, largely organized by a team of volunteers, will take place on Theatinerstrasse and on Odeonsplatz—where a fantastic array of arts and crafts will be on sale—and from Marienplatz to Rindermarkt, where great live music is sure to set the atmosphere. Kids will delight in participating in medieval events in the Residenz courtyard. Al fresco culinary offerings will include specialties ranging from medieval fare to Munich Schmankerl, all for family-friendly prices. And, don’t forget: Here, you will savor the best beer in town from Augustiner, the Munich’s only non-globalized brewery. <<<
